M&S | Garden Glamour E-session

When thinking about engagement pictures, jeans and t-shirts usually come to mind. I wanted to break away from the mold and do something out of the box and inspiring. In addition, as the wedding will be high glam and more urban, the engagement pictures were intended to feel the exact opposite.

Phrases such as “garden glamour” and “bohemian” came to mind and that was the jumping off point. The setting was to be rural and filled with lush greens, tall weeds and overgrown fields. Toogood Pond Park in Markham, Ontario was the ideal setting. I must thank my amazing photographer Gillian of Ikonica for finding this gem.

I wanted to ensure the shoot did not embody the “hippie boho” vibe as that is so not us. As much as I wanted the shoot to feel editorial and fantasy-like, I wanted it to be a reflection of our personalities. Shooting in a park yet adding feminine and “glam” details is so up my alley. (Not sure how the groom felt but he was a good sport)

I enlisted Becky of Blush and Bloom to create the floral details for me. I kept seeing images of brides and models in floral crowns and I knew I had to wear one for the shoot.  In addition, I asked for an oversized bouquet to prance around with. She told me it was the biggest one she had ever made! The ‘piece de resistance’ however, was the gorgeous floral swing we made together. Becky designed and installed the lovely floral garlands onto the swing. Luckily, Toogood Pond Park had the most picturesque tree for us to hang it on.

For the other details, I rented a loveseat from Luxe Modern Rentals which created a fun environment for us to shoot pictures in. Beside it was a cute vignette made of vintage wooden boxes topped with yummy pink cupcakes and a burlap sign reading “A Cupcake for a Kiss.” We later used this saying as inspiration for another element of the shoot.

I wanted to make sure there was an element of this shoot inspired by Steven. I purchased a mirror and wrote a love quote by his favourite artist Bob Dylan – “You were my first love and you will be my last.”

To end the shoot, we frolicked around with a big bunch of ivory balloons. The day could not have been more perfect.

Shout out to my beauty team – Allison Kam and Maureen Greenstein. Lots of love xoxo
